Charitable Spotlight: John C. Campbell Folk Art School
The John C. Campbell Folk School is a cherished philanthropic organization of our clients. The school was founded in 1925 by Olive Campbell and Marguerite Butler to help pass along the crafts, skills, and culture of the people living in Southern Appalachia. Set in the beautiful mountains of western North Carolina, the John C. Campbell Folk School provides unique week long and weekend learning experiences in a variety of areas including music, dance, traditional crafts, and fine arts.
The immersive experience at the Folk School provides a unique opportunity to learn in a non-competitive, collaborative environment. Although classes provide a good challenge, participants often experience rich, personal growth and develop a deeper sense of self. Additionally, the sense of accomplishment gained through the study of a new skill is empowering and is something participants take with them and can continue to build upon.
Our clients have especially enjoyed the mandolin, print-making, Greek cooking, and soap making courses. They believe in the organization and have regularly donated to support scholarships, capital projects like studio improvements, and general operating expenses. One of the special parts of attending a folk school course are the connections fostered with others. From communally shared meals to evening concerts and studio visits, new friendships are made and deep connections forged. Our clients want the John C.
